"Mary and David were wonderful to work with. They had a vision for our project but they were able to incorporate our taste, our needs and our input. From the larger vision to the small details, they kept everything in mind and on schedule. We would, and hope to, work with them again."

Who We Are
At Horst Buchanan Architects, we provide high-end architectural services for residential, institutional and commercial clients. Rather than bringing a set aesthetic to each project, we design spaces that reflect the needs and tastes of our clients.
We realize that the spaces they inhabit, at home and at work, are the settings within which our clients live out the stories of their lives, and we're fascinated by how the right design can infuse those stories with happiness and beauty.
We take tremendous pride in making the process fun, and have a reputation for smoothly managing complex projects.
We offer skilled design services, provide detailed construction drawings and specifications, and complete construction administration services.
Established in 1995, our firm combines the talents and project management skills of two individuals who share common design goals and aspirations:
As a great listener who is constantly curious about the lives of other people, Mary Horst is able to consider design from the client's point of view; her imaginative aesthetic is informed always by a practical approach to design.
Mary is a Registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the State of New Hampshire, and is a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
Prior to starting independent practice, Mary was an Associate with Graham Gund Architects. During nine years with this acclaimed architectural design firm, Mary was lead architect for numerous private institutional clients and secondary independent school clients.
Mary received her Masters in Architecture from Princeton University in 1985 and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Virginia in 1983.
With an eye for observing the world and a love of architectural history, David Buchanan has the ability to help clients identify the best creative solutions; his thoughtful design method creates meaningful places.
David is a Registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Until devoting his efforts to independent practice, David was an Associate with Leers Weinzapfel Associates. David was the design architect for many award-winning projects for this firm. He contributed to many of the firm's designs for public institutional clients and for public and independent school clients.
David was awarded a Masters in Architecture from Princeton University in 1986 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Art History, from Middlebury College in 1982.
